Photo by Norman FeltwellClive Denney has been working in the vintage aircraft restoration business with his wife Linda Denney for many years; working with the B17 Flying Fortress, Spitfire restorations and many other vintage aircraft types. Their company Vintage Fabrics has an international reputation its aircraft restoration work. Clive is a qualified Spitfire and Hurricane pilot and also flies in the "Red Sparrows" Chipmunk formation team.

Glenn Denney has worked with the company for a number of years and is an IT specialist and is a vintage aircraft owner.

Howard Cook worked with the Messerschmitt Display Team for a nine years, was Air Display Director of the Rougham Air Display for a six years. He flies with the Historic aircraft Collection, Little Diamond Formation Team, the "Red Sparrows" Chipmunk formation  and is a qualified Spitfire and Hurricane Pilot.

The team now also includes Derek Rusling, Vic Flores and James Holland.

Clive, Linda, Glenn and Howard formed the Merlins Over Malta team to examine the feasibility of taking a Spitfire and Hurricane to Malta in 2005. After discussions with aircraft operators and with the support from members of the Malta Aviation Museum, Key Publishing and Flypast magazine, the project was deemed feasible for the target date of September 2005.

The project was supported on the trip by:

  • Roche Bentley and Frank Marson who flew the support aircraft

  • Tim Thoday and Bryan Simpson who crewed the Spitfire and Hurricane

  • Rob Friar, Paul & David Littleton and David Polidano who maintained the aircraft

  • Guy & Janice Black and Angus & Tina Spencer-Nairn, the aircraft owners

  • The RAF at War Living History Group

  • Muriel Pavlow
